Care Team Instructions and Signup

If you’re landing on this page, I appreciate your interest in being part of the support community as I go through cancer treatment. My treatment starts on Monday, 2/10, and proceeds for seven weeks until Friday, 3/28.

What follows is a little orientation toward the kinds of help I can use for the next couple of months. The signup link is at the bottom of this page (but you can always get back to it by typing bit.ly/petecaresignup into a web browser). Also, feel free to follow my treatment blog.

Rides

I can use rides to and/or from my radiation therapy appointments that have been scheduled every day, M-F, at 3.15pm. I have heard these will be “roughly” one hour appointments, but they could be a little shorter or longer than that.

  • I will need to picked up from my house at 1887 Thomasville Dr. (30315) at 2.30p.
  • I will need a ride home from Winship Cancer Center, Midtown, 36 Linden Ave. (30308) whenever my appointment is over (sometime between 4p and 4.30p).

You’re welcome to sign up for both slots on a specific day, park at the Winship parking deck, and wait in the lobby for me if you’d like. I’m happy to pay for your parking : )

Due to the fact that I’ll be immunocompromised during treatment, I’ll be wearing a mask. I will ask that you wear a mask as well in the car, and I’ll be happy to provide you one!

Once-a-week Family Dinners

My eating is going to be a challenging thing to manage, and my appetite won’t always be that strong, so I hesitate to take any support for meals for myself. However, as long as I can, I would like to keep having my kids over for dinner once a week (a thing we have been doing for a while), and it would be helpful for someone (or a pair or trio of people) to drop off or provide that meal. Anyone bringing a meal is welcome to stay and eat with us!

Food prep details: No vegetarians in my family; no one is allergic to anything. Please avoid spicy foods. On a typical night, it will be 6 of us (me, Jenn, Noah, Eden, Ian, and Micah); with advance notice my parents might attend, bringing the number to 8.

You will see the family dinner slot on the spreadsheet marked in pink. If you sign up for a dinner, please let us know on the spreadsheet what you’re bringing a couple of days beforehand. At the start of every week, Heather or I will reach out to you to figure out how you’d like to get us the meal. Again, PLEASE feel welcome to either drop it off or sit down and join us. Delivery gift cards are welcome, also.

Miscellaneous

There are a couple of tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet that provide more information (about meals or directions). Please let one of us know if there’s something that you think needs to be included on there.

For people who live close by, a text once a week if you’re going to the grocery store would be helpful, if I can add a few things to your list (I’m still living a car-less life, but I get grocery delivery often). Feel free to check in with texts or emails whenever you’d like. I may be limiting phone calls after a certain point in the treatment because my voice may get strained.

Here’s is a link to the care team signup spreadsheet.

To get back to it again, you can always type bit.ly/petecaresignup into a web browser. Just type your name into a ride slot or meal slot if you’d like to claim it. If you accidentally remove info from the spreadsheet, just let me or Heather know.

I offer a huge thanks to Heather Pincock for offering to be the “care team” manager. Her stellar organizing skills are internationally regarded : ) Please feel free to email or call Heather (heather “dot” pincock “at” gmail.com) or me (pete “dot” rorabaugh “at” proton.me) if you have any questions about how things work or want to make any last minute substitutions.
